Berkhamsted Fairtrade is supported by Berkhamsted Town Council (www.berkhamsted.gov.uk).
The Council has pledged to serve fairtrade tea and coffee at meetings when appropriate, and to encourage the use of fairtrade goods throughout the town.
Their valuable support is one of the criteria we require to be a fairtrade town.
14 September 2007 Berkhamsted became a Fairtrade Town.

Berkhamsted is an ancient market town lying on the route of a Roman road, Akeman Street, passing through the Chiltern Hills in Hertfordshire.
In 2007 Berkhamsted achieved Fairtrade Town status. This involved several years of active campaigning to gain the co-operation and commitment of the Town Council, our schools, churches, community groups, retailers, restaurants and other businesses. Fairtrade status is not granted in perpetuity, and our group - Berkhamsted Fairtrade, works to ensure that the requirements of the Fairtrade Foundation continue to be met.
Currently we are supporting work in progress to gain Hertfordshire status as a Fairtrade County (www.fairtradehertfordshire.org.) It is hoped that this will be achieved by 2012 when Hertfordshire will host some Olympic watersports events and give hospitality to some of the visiting olympic athletes.
In February 2009 our status as a Fairtrade Town was renewed
