Drawing the ticket for the hamper
We met many of you again at our stall at the Festival of Lights in the town centre on Sunday 4th December.
Amongst all the stalls, the music and attractions you guessed the weight of our Fairtrade Christmas cake, donated by KTea Cakes; picked Fairtrade products to try and win a hamper of Fairtrade goods, and tried your hand at finding the winning keys to open the cupboards of Fairtrade goodies.
The lights were switched on at 5.30pm, and shortly after Santa and his sleigh drove into town!
We are proud to be celebrating four years as a Fairtrade Town this year and held a "Birthday" stall in the market on 24th September. We had Fairtrade cupcakes, games with fairtrade prizes and balloons and a few new fairtrade products to show you. Waitrose donated a hamper of Fairtrade Goodies as a prize for our new game - which was won by Alison Cotton. We were delighted to be supported by Berkhamsted's Mayor, Cllr. Carol Green.
Since we became a Fairtrade Town in 2007, you have joined us having fun in celebrating Fairtrade Fortnights - "Going Bananas for Fairtrade", Swapping to Fairtrade and this year, "Show off your label" and making Fairtrade Bunting. More and more fairtrade products have come on line in our local shops and supermarkets.
The monthly stall at the Town Hall is well patronised and we have lots of information there about Fairtrade.
Victoria School has become our first Fairtrade School and we hope that soon others will follow! All our Churches and many more of our community groups are now supporting Fairtrade.
We have launched this website and produced Berkhamsted's Fairtrade Directory.
Come and see our Fairtrade stall at the Arts and Crafts market in Berkhamsted Town Hall, which is held on the first Saturday of every month from 10.00am - 4.00pm.
Here you will find information about Fairtrade, and will be able to buy Fairtrade food, household products, crafts, handmade cards and gifts sourced from Traidcraft (www.traidcraft.co.uk). Many of our items are not available in the local shops. We have many ideas for ethical gifts at reasonable prices. We also sell Home-made Marmalades and Seasonal Preserves (containing fairtrade ingredients) and plants in late spring and summer.
Fairtrade tea, coffee and Katy's cakes made with fairtrade ingredients, are available at the Town Hall cafe.
NEXT SALE - Saturday 3rd March 2012, 10.00am - 4.00pm
