A FAIRTRADE MAD HATTER'S TEA PARTY was held at Canal Fields on the Spring Bank Holiday (31st May 2010).
The event was organised jointly by Berkhamsted Fairtrade Steering Committee (providing fairtrade tea, coffee and soft drinks) and Berkhamsted Youth Town Council who had baked and sold fairtrade cakes.
Berko's Big Band (www.berkosbigband.co.uk) entertained the crowd with a lively and varied programme of both instrumental and vocal music.
There was a variety of stalls providing information about Fairtrade, Fairtrade Crafts, sweets, face-painting and games. Ashlyns School Association, Victoria (our first Fairtrade school), Westfield First School and 3rd Berkhamsted Guides all had stalls.
One of the highlights was the Fancy Dress Competition. The theme was "Alice in Wonderland" and the dozen entrants beautifully dressed included Alice, the White Rabbit, and the Dormouse .They were judged by Berkhamsted Mayor Cllr.Julie Laws on her first official engagement.
Our grateful thanks go to everyone who helped to make the afternoon a great success - especially to Clare (The Swan Youth Project), Sandra (ESCO)and Jo from Ashlyns School Association.
